AICTE Lilavathi Award 2022- Winner Category Under Women Innovators

AICTE recognizes women empowerment in AICTE approved institutions in the name of AICTE lilavati award for the last 2 years. In the year 2022, 8 sub themes were announced under various sectors including literacy and life skill, health care, sanitation and hygiene, women entrepreneurship, self defence, technology for women, legal awareness and women innovators. Sona College of technology applied under 5 themes, out of which 3 got short listed at first level namely women innovators, technology for women and self defence. Dr. R. Malathy professor and head of the civil department, Dr. Gulshan Taj associate professor of civil department, team winner category in Wommen innovator theme.

Dr. R. Malathy has more than 30 years of teaching experience and 15 years in research. She is the recipient of AICTE VISVESVARAYA BEST TEACHER AWARDon 15th September, 2020.Underherguidanceandmentorship the students won first prize in AICTE Smart India Hackathon 2020 and the students got winners in AICTE MAPATHON 2021.Her accolades includes more than 15 awards like UGC Research Award 2016, Best Women Engineering College Teacher and Outstanding researcher awards in 2012 by ISTE, AICTE Young Teacher Career Award 2008, Innovative Teacher Award forthe year 2005 from CLHRD, Mangalore. She also received “Best Paper Award” in the year 2006 and 2016 published in ICI journal. She has filed about 16 patents in various product development. She visited many countries like Singapore, South Korea, Germany, London, Hong hong, Dubai, Bankok and Nepal to present her research findings. She is the principal investigator for various R&D projects (funded by DST, AICTE, IEI , UGC etc., ) worth more than 2 Crores. She has done extensive research work on High Performance Concrete, Self Compacting Concrete, Self Curing Concrete, Geo Polymer Concrete, Papercrete and Effect of mineraland chemical admixtures on properties of Concrete, corrosion of metals etc., She published more than 100 papers in reputed peer reviewed journals and conferences at international and National levels. She has produced 15 doctorates and guiding 10Ph.D scholars. Presently she is the Professor &Dean (Research &Development) in Sona College of Technology ( Autonomous) Salem, Tamilnadu, India and also established and heading the research centre SONA COIN(Concrete INnovation).She cleared IGBC AP examination with high score to her credentials and holding the role of chairman in IGBC student chapter at Sona College of Technology.

Aicte Lilavathi Award 2022

Dr.Gulshan Taj has teaching and research experience of 15 years and completed Ph.D at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee in the year 2014 in the area of functionally graded materials. She published more than 80 papers in nation and international conferences and journals. Her research areas includes structural health monitoring, remote sensing, green buildings and advanced composite materials. She was recipient of Best Women Engineer Award from IEI in the year 2017 and received best innovation award from IIC. She obtained fund from various funding agencies IEI, CSIR, SERB and Anna university to conduct national level workshops and seminars. Her student projects won various awards from NDRF, ISTE and AICTE, New Delhi. She guided the projects that won ISTE best project award at national and state level on drone surveying and digital image processing in the consecutive years 2019,2020 and 2021. She completed her IGBC AP examination with high score to her credentials and holding the role of secretary in IGBC student chapter at Sona College of Technology.

Both the faculty members have file patents in various sectors that would help rural women to adopt technologies for their livelihood. They interacted with village women to demonstrate their products and motivated many women to turn as enterpreneurs. They joined hands with SHG people to motivate many women to turn as successful Enterpreneurs in diverge sectors. Professor.Dr.R.Malathy and Associate Professor Dr.gulshan Taj M N A in an interaction mentioned that they would like to empower women community by transferring technology via products and process and thus to reach rural women in order to solve the problems encountered in present day to day life. Students from Department of Civil Engineering will also be involved in such kind of activities that could help them to turn to Technopreneurs and successful Enterpreneurs.
