Science Department

- Laying a Strong Foundation for Engineering Success!

The Department of Mathematics collaborates effectively with other Departments in the college in fulfilling the mission of the college. The imposing range of applications of Mathematics in the core curriculum of the Engineering and Technology disciplines is taught with special emphasis on the practical significance of applications. No effort is spared to help the students realize their goals of acquiring the finer aspects of mathematical knowledge along with professional degrees like B.E, M.E, in various disciplines and the MCA, MBA and B.Sc.

Department of Mathematics is committed to effectively impart the fine Mathematical knowledge to students of Engineering, which serve as a base for their engineering studies, and make them excel in their knowledge and life. It is also committed to help the students of Sona to realize the Mathematical, Logical and Scientific potential in them by invoking their ability to understand abstract concepts and express them in concise and precise language.

The Department has a highly spirited team of 18 well qualified faculty. The team is composed of the following categories of staff.

  • Two Doctorate Professors
  • Four Senior Lecturers
  • Twelve Lecturers
  • Four Trainee Lecturers

Six of them are pursuing their higher Doctorate Degrees. The faculty have specialization in various aspects. Some of the areas are listed below

  • Number Theory
  • Fuzzy Topology and Sequences of Spaces.
  • Fluid Mechanics
  • Rational Approximation
  • Elasticity
  • Operations Research

Academic Excellence

Over and above the excitement of teaching mathematics, the faculty members are involved in a diverse range of academic activity. Two of these are highlighted below.

Authoring Computer-Based Training/ Teaching (CBT) packages, each consisting of a text book and a CD-ROM in Engineering Mathematics, etc.

Participating in various national conferences/ seminars/ symposiums and Faculty Development Programmes.

Research work on the detection of large primes and twin primes, and on the digits of ‘pi’ is progressing in the department. The faculty also have the capability of giving research guidance to aspiring mathematicians in the following fields.

  • Number Theory
  • Rational Approximation.
