English - Introduction

One of the founding departments of Sona College of Technology, the Department of Humanities and Languages, was established along with the inception of the college in 1997. The main objective of the department is to develop the communicative competence and performance of the students in English. A team of well experienced and vibrant English faculty with proven excellence in teaching and research carries forward the mission of the institution.

The highlight of the department facilities is a multimedia language lab which is equipped with seventy audio and video interactive systems to develop the interest of the students in learning the language in a novel way. Languages like French, German, Japanese, Korean and Hindi are also offered by the department. Training in special proficiency exams like APTIS, TOEFL, GRE, IELTS is also extended. The Department of Humanities and Languages is committed towards the holistic growth of the students and thus constantly revisits the pedagogic methods and practices.

Recently, the department has signed an MOU with the University of Complutense, Madrid to establish a Systemic Functional Linguistics Lab that will serve as a Centre of Excellence for linguistic research and carry out research in the areas of discourse analysis, multilingual education, text generation and computational linguistics and to have students and faculty exchange programmes.
