Admission


Eligibility Criteria

The following are the general eligibility criteria to pursue all the diploma level courses offered by our institution.

  • Minimum Pass in 10th Standard or equivalent / currently pursuing in a Bachelor’s Degree programme / Graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree programme (B.A, B.Com, BSc, B.E., B.Tech, etc.) / discontinued in a Bachelor’s Degree programme / Currently enrolled in a Post Graduate programme / Graduated any Post Graduate Degree / Completed Diploma in any field etc.
  • However, the eligibility may vary depending on the course pre-requisites. (Combination mentioned below to be specified by the coordinator according to the programme).

Duration of the Programme

  • The course duration of all the diploma programmes is 1 year (two terms).
  • Classes will be conducted from Monday to Friday in the evening and morning hours on Saturdays (timings will be conveyed by the coordinator).

Medium of Instruction

All the programmes are offered through Department of Continuing Education under Sona College of Technology with English as medium of instruction.

Course Fee

Decided by the department in consultation with Coordinator, Continuing Education Department, Dean Academics and Principal.

Structure of the Diploma Programme

  • Diploma programmes comprehends different modules.
  • Each module will be having fixed number of courses and appropriate credits.
  • Candidates need to obtain minimum 40 credits and pass in all assessments for the eligibility to be awarded the certificate of diploma.
  • If a candidate has completed only 20 credits and passed the required courses, he/she is becomes eligible to be awarded the certificate only for that module.
  • Each credit is equivalent to 15 lecture hours or 30 hours of hands-on training

Credit Structure

Each course offered is given a L-P structure, depending on the number of lecture periods (L) and number of periods for practical (P) required per week for an efficient teaching – learning process. A student is expected to put in his/her own efforts in proportion with periods spent in classroom, as defined in L-P structure. On successful completion of the course, a student is said to have earned a specified number of credits defined for each course. Every one hour of Lecture (L) session/week amounts to 1 credit. A minimum of two hours session of Practical (P) sessions/ week amounts to 1 credit. Also, one hour of practical session / week amounts to 0.5 credit. A course of study may consist of only the lecture component or only the practical/practice component or a combination of any two.

Credit allocation and Lecture (L): Practical (P): Credit (C) composition for the following courses:

  • Theory Courses: 3:0:3 or 4:0:4
  • Practical Courses: 0:2:1 or 0:3:1.5 or 0:4:2 or 0:8:4
  • Integrated Theory cum Practical Courses: 2:2:3 or 3:2:4
  • Integrated Practical cum Theory Courses:1:4:3 or 1:6:4

Attendance Requirements for the Module

  • Ideally 100% attendance of all the students is much anticipated. However, a student need to secure a minimum of 75% attendance to become eligible to appear for the final summative assessment examination.
  • A candidate with less than 75% attendance but more than 65% attendance can apply for condonation which may be approved by Controller of Examinations.
  • A candidate is having less than 65% attendance will not be permitted to appear for the continuous/ summative assessments. In such cases, the candidate should redo the course.

Examinations and Assessments

Each module comprises of theory and practical courses which are assessed continuously till the end of the term. At the end of every term, there will be a final summative examination.

Theory Courses

All the theory courses are conducted for 100 marks in the summative examination which is converted to 60 marks. Classification of continuous assessment and summative examinations are as follows,

  • At the end of every module, there will be a continuous assessment examination.
  • There will be 3 continuous assessments for every course in that module.
  • This examination will be conducted for 1 hour with a weightage of 50 marks.
  • Question paper pattern for the continuous assessment comprises of multiple choices, 2 marks and 10 marks question.

  • At the end of every term, there will be a final summative assessment.
  • This will be conducted as 3 hours examination of 100 marks.
  • Question paper pattern for the summative assessment comprises of 2 marks and 16 marks question.

Summative Assessments
  • At the end of every term, there will be a final summative assessment with a weightage of 100 marks.
  • A candidate needs to obtain 50 marks put together in continuous and summative assessment to get pass in the course.
  • If a candidate failed to complete his/her diploma programmes in the duration of 1 year he/she may be allowed to a maximum of three attempts within a period of 3 years.

Photocopy cum Revaluation

  • A student can apply for photocopy of his/her answer paper in a theory course, within a week from the declaration of results, on payment of a prescribed fee through proper application to the Controller of Examinations with the approval of Head of Department.
  • The answer script is to be valued and justified by a course expert, who handled the course and recommend the student to apply for revaluation.
  • Based on the recommendation, the student can register for revaluation through proper application and prescribed fee payment approved by course expert, HOD and Principal.
  • The Controller of Examinations will arrange for the revaluation and the results will be intimated to the student concerned through the Head of the Department.
  • Revaluation is not permitted for practical courses, project work and any type of elective courses.

Convocation

  • Proficiency prizes will be awarded at the special Annual day / Convocation celebration arranged during the academic year.
  • Convocation address will be addressed by the Guest of Honour.
  • Students will be informed about the Convocation according to the communication address given in the admission form.
  • Any change in the address should be intimated to the Coordinator, Continuing Education Department without delay.
