With an aura of solemnity, pride, and excitement, the Women’s March 24 series of events got underway on March 8, 2024 marking the World Women’s Day.

Sona College of Technology has a stellar history of promoting gender justice and women’s welfare. The “Women’s March,” an unprecedented initiative, served as the pinnacle of the institution’s significant advancements made since its founding. Within the hallowed confines of Sona, events were thoughtfully planned to honour, contemplate, illustrate, and take action on the many facets of women’s welfare, progress and gender equality that would also have a lasting impact on the community.

Women’s March 24 series kicked off with a ceremonial lighting  of the auspicious lamp (kuthuvillaku) by Madam Chairman Seetha Valliappa.  Chairman Shri C. Valliappa reminiscend about Sona’s pioneering step of admitting girl students in technical education back in 1976. Let’s continue to pave the way for a brighter future!

Distance was no barrier to Vice Chairman Chocko Valliappa as he joined the inaugural function online from the Middle East, emphasizing the global importance of our mission. Vice Chairman Thyagu Valliappa announced women quota in admissions, reaffirming equality and diversity.

Mrs. V. Sowmiya, Additional Commissioner, Income Tax, as our Guest of Honour, inspired our girl students to pursue empowering careers in government service. Madam Vislakshi Chocko Valliappa’s call for courage, self-confidence, humility, kindness, and a supportive mind-set resonates deeply with what we strive for.  Dr. Renuka Oliver, from the Tamil Nadu Widows and Destitute Welfare Board, stresses the urgent need for strong laws to curb crimes against women.

The inaugural of the “Women’s March 2024” series was not just talks, it’s was about recognizing talent and potential of women too! Prizes were given for our girl students and cultural events added vibrancy and joy to the inaugural function.
