As part of promoting Indian classical arts, the SPICMACAY–Heritage Club organized a distinguished Classical Flute Concert by Kalaimamani Vidushi Sikkil Mala Chandrasekhar on Thursday, 20 November 2025, at the PG Auditorium, Sona College of Technology.

The gathering was welcomed by Mr. S. Jayachandran, Coordinator of the SPICMACAY–Heritage Club, followed by an address from Dr. G. M. Kadhar Nawaz, Principal, Sona College of Arts and Science, who highlighted the importance of cultural enrichment on campus.

Dignitaries from Sona Institutions—including Dr. G. M. Kadhar Nawaz, Dr. M. Renuga (Professor & HOD, Humanities & Languages, Sona College of Technology), and Dr. V. P. Ramesh Kumaar (PRO & Associate Professor, MBA, Sona School of Business Management)—honored the musicians:

  • Kalaimamani Vidushi Smt. Mala Chandrasekhar (Flute)
  • Pudukkottai Sri R. Ambika Prasad (Violin)
  • Neyveli Sri Ramkumar (Mridangam)
  • Sri D. V. Venkatasubramanian (Ghatam)

Following the felicitation, the audience enjoyed an inspiring live classical flute recital by Vidushi Sikkil Mala Chandrasekhar, showcasing the depth and elegance of Carnatic music. The concert began with the melodious “Vanjakshi” (Kalyani Varnam), followed by Dikshitar’s “Maha Ganapathim” in Nattai. Tyagaraja’s “Padhavini” in Salakabhairavi was rendered briskly. A brief yet nuanced Saveri alapana introduced Shyama Sastri’s masterpiece “Sankari Sankuru Chandramukhi,” which featured an impressive set of kalpanaswaras and was well received by the packed audience. The fast-paced filler, Tyagaraja’s “Natimatta” in Devakriya, added vibrancy to the performance.

The main piece of the evening began with an elaborate Kambodhi alapana, leading into Dikshitar’s grand composition “Sri Subramanyaya Namaste.” The rendition included beautifully executed kalpanaswaras. This was followed by the popular “Enna Thavam” in Kapi. The Ragam–Tanam–Pallavi segment featured three ragas—Kalyani, Vasantha, and Bhairavi—highlighting the artiste’s intellectual mastery and seamless transitions. The intricate Pallavi was delivered with rapid raga shifts, concluding with linked ragas such as Kalyanavasantham and Vasanthabharavi.

The concluding thukkadasKatrinile, Ninnayako, and Maitrim—evoked the nostalgic charm of the M.S. Subbulakshmi era.

Pudukkottai Sri R. Ambika Prasad provided strong violin support, showcasing exceptional vidwat in raga alapana and swara passages. Vidwan Neyveli Sri Ramkumar (Mridangam) and Sri D. V. Venkatasubramanian (Ghatam) lent excellent rhythmic support and delivered a brilliant tani avartanam. The master of ceremony duties were enthusiastically handled by the teachers of Sona Valliappa Public School.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. V. P. Ramesh Kumaar.
