Sona College of Technology, in association with the Tamil Nadu Center of Excellence of Advanced Manufacturing (TANCAM), proudly organized a Mega Women’s Design Hackathon on March 14, 2025, with an incredible turnout of 1000+ women engineers from across Tamil Nadu.
The event was jointly organized by Sona Accelerator & Incubation Foundation and Sona Star Innovation Pvt. Ltd. Under the dynamic leadership of Vice-Chairman Mr. Thyagu Valliappa, the event centered around the theme of “Smart Urban Development.” Over 300+ innovative projects were exhibited under the following sub-themes:
- Smart Mobility and Reduced Congestion
- Green Infrastructure and Climate Resilience
- Inclusive Housing and Community Development
- Smart Waste Management and Circular Economy
- Sustainable Energy and Smart Grids
- Data-Driven Urban Planning

International Women’s Day Celebration
Alongside the hackathon, Sona Institutions celebrated International Women’s Day on the same day, paying a powerful tribute to women in engineering and technology. The celebration featured inspiring speeches and engaging discussions on innovation, gender equity, and well-being by Chairman Sri C. Valliappa, Vice Chairman Mr. Thyagu Valliappa, Principal Prof. Dr. S.R.R Senthilkumar, industry leaders, and elite alumni, reinforcing Sona’s commitment to fostering women’s leadership in every sphere.
The day concluded with breathtaking dances, a short dance-drama, Kungfu performances, and a yoga workout by the talented girl students of Sona Institutions, showcasing their creativity and spirit.
