The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a guest lecture on the topic “Renewable Energy: Life Cycle Management for Wind Turbine Gearboxes” on September 28, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. for final-year mechanical engineering students.
Mr. Sidharaju began by introducing the concept of Life Cycle Management, emphasizing its significance in optimizing the performance and sustainability of wind turbine gearboxes. He outlined the stages of LCM, which include: Design and Development, Manufacturing, Operation and Maintenance, End-of-Life Management. He presented several case studies from ZF Wind Power, showcasing successful implementations of LCM strategies that led to improved performance and reduced costs. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, where participants posed questions regarding practical applications of LCM and future trends in renewable energy technology. This lecture provided valuable insights into the intricacies of Life Cycle Management in the context of renewable energy and underscored the importance of sustainable practices in the wind power sector.
