The NSS units of Sona College of Technology organized an Awareness Seminar on Women Empowerment and Women’s Health at Vattamuthampatty Village and MGR Nagar on 07 January 2026, during the forenoon session of the sixth day of the NSS Special Camp. The session was led by Tmt. A. P. Jayakrishna, AP / ECE, and Tmt. K. S. Jayarekha, AP / CSE, Coordinators of the Women Empowerment Committee, Sona College of Technology.
The seminar aimed to create awareness about women’s physical and mental well-being, legal rights, safety, and opportunities for personal growth. It emphasized that health is the foundation of empowerment and introduced women’s health as a balance of physical, mental, and reproductive well-being across all life stages. Common issues such as anemia, menstrual problems, PCOS/PCOD, maternal health concerns, mental stress, and cancer risks were discussed, along with practical guidance on nutrition, hygiene, screening, yoga, and self-care.
The session also highlighted the true meaning of women’s empowerment as the freedom to make independent choices in education, career, and life. Legal awareness on equality, domestic violence, workplace safety (POSH Act), cyber-crimes, and women’s rights was provided, along with information on reporting mechanisms and support systems. Participants were introduced to various state and central government schemes supporting women in health, education, and entrepreneurship.
The programme concluded with the message, “Your health is your greatest wealth.” The seminar successfully created awareness, built confidence, and inspired participants to become informed, empowered, and responsible change agents.
