Sona College of Technology celebrated National Science Day on March 04, 2025, in Sri Valliappa Auditorium, organized by the Department of Sciences. Dr. C. Shanthi, Head, Department of Sciences welcomed the gathering. Dr. S.R.R. Senthil Kumar, Principal, delivered a special address about the importance of Science in Engineering and Technology. The principal suggested setting short-term goals and working towards achieving them to help India become a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047. He highlighted the importance of skilling our workforce and encouraged students to focus on innovation. Furthermore, he urged students to go the extra mile, following the example of great personalities like C.V. Raman, to achieve excellence. The principal also motivated students to address and solve real-world problems.
The Chief Guest of the function, Dr. K. Kadirvelu, Scientist “G”, DEBEL DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India, Associate Director & DRDO – Coordinator, DRDO Industry Academia-Centre of Excellence, Bharathiar University Campus, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, delivered a talk on the 2025 Science Day theme, “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for a Viksit Bharat”. He explained about the indigenous technologies developed by DRDO, ranging from missiles to agricultural advancements, and their applications in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. He also encouraged students to pursue advancements in basic sciences, highlighting how they contribute to the country’s sustainability.
He also shared information about internship opportunities and the process for entering DRDO. As a part of Science Day Celebrations, various competitions such as JAM (Just a minute), Science Quiz, Paper Presentation, Multimedia presentation, Making of Sirpi, and Working Science Models were conducted exclusively for all the first-year students to showcase their hidden talents. Students enthusiastically participated in all the competitions. The Chief guest distributed prizes and certificates to prize winners and participants.
