From thought-provoking speeches and inspiring success stories to announcements of bold new academic ventures, the 28th Annual Day Celebrations of Sona College of Technology on April 11, 2025, captured the spirit of Sona’s commitment to excellence and values in engineering education — and the event offered heart-tugging reminiscences for the outgoing batch of students.

Delivering the Presidential address, our respected Chairman, Sri C.Valliappa, appealed to the students to know about India’s most respected and pioneer engineer, Sri Vishwsvaraiya, who was the founder of the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce (For which our Chairman was the President).

In his distilled wisdom, shaped by unique life experiences, our Chairman said, “Every revolution creates waves of new jobs. Good engineers are always in demand,” he asserted, urging students to follow the advice of Sona’s founder, Sri.M.S. Chockalingam: Do your best in whatever you do.

He also appealed to the students to choose happiness over earnings when it came to choose between a foreign job and a local one for the sake of taking care of aged parents.

In his speech, Vice Chairman, Mr.Chocko Valliappa, said that Sona College of Technology is among the top ten institutions in the country with NAAC A++ accreditation and a high CGPA of 3.65.

He noted that the faculty members at Sona are actively pursuing continuous learning and receiving recognition for their exceptional performance in NPTEL courses.

“This culture of continuous learning is vital, especially in a world that is changing rapidly with technological advances. Embrace change. Adaptability is the key. Sona has taught you how to learn,” he said.

Mr. Chocko Valliappa emphasized that research must address societal needs, and that Sona serves as a launchpad for socially conscious engineers.

Addressing the students, our Vice Chairman, Mr. Thyagu Valliappa, said Sona College would be a great university when they come back after 20 years. “Whereever you are, carry Sona’s flag. You will always be a Sonatan referring back to your school or college”, he said.

Our Vice Chairman explained the vision behind Sona’s ongoing and upcoming ventures—like the i5 Logo, the Global Capacity Centre (GCC) for Japanese language in Bangalore, Sona City, and Sona in Cup (Sona Coffee)—and reminded students that four vital ingredients of ability will take them forward in life: industry connect, strategic skills, connecting skills, and usability skills.”
