SONA’S AICTE IDEA Lab

The AICTE IDEA Lab at Sona College of Technology, Salem, sanctioned on 25th April 2025, was inaugurated on 16th September 2025. The inauguration was graced by Mr. Chocko Valliappa, Vice Chairman of Sona Group of Institutions, and attended by Mr. Yoshun Yamaoka, Global Head of Toyoshima and Xenoma, Japan, who was warmly welcomed during the ceremony.

The IDEA Lab aims to promote Innovation, Design Thinking, Entrepreneurship, and Application-based learning, providing students and faculty with a creative space to design, prototype, and develop real-world solutions. In his address, Mr. Chocko Valliappa emphasized the importance of hands-on learning and innovation-driven education to prepare students for future challenges.

Mr. Yoshun Yamaoka shared valuable insights into Japan’s technological advancements and encouraged students to explore global collaborations in emerging technologies such as automation, robotics, and smart systems.

Principal Dr. S. R. R. Senthil Kumar, in his remarks, appreciated AICTE for its support and vision in establishing IDEA Labs across India. He reaffirmed that Sona College would utilize this facility to its fullest potential to promote creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship among students.

The state-of-the-art IDEA Lab is equipped with facilities for mechanical fabrication, electronics design, IoT, 3D printing, and laser cutting, enabling multidisciplinary innovation. The event concluded with demonstrations of student projects and discussions on future collaborations, marking a major step toward fostering creativity, research, and innovation at Sona College of Technology.
