The faculty members and students from CSE, IT and MBA attended a-day “STARTUP ECOSYSTEM” organized by Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce on 20th January 2016 in ROYAL ORCHID HOTEL, BANGALORE at 6PM-9:30PM. Our vice Chairman Mr. Thyagu Valliappa also the Senior Vice President, BCIC, addressed the gathering in the Inaugural session. Dr. Vijayaragavan Viswanathan, Scientist /CERN, Switzerland and CEO of Tiino Techmations Ltd, who is the mentor for the AVANT GARDE PRE – INCUBATION CLUB @Sona, was present there. Prof M.Marimuthu AP/CSE and C.Sureshkumar AP/IT accompanied the students. The co-founders and directors of companies like MICROSOFT VENTURES, BIGBASKET, TREEBO HOTELS, and TAXIFORSURE were present on the Dias sharing their knowledge and experiences.
Dr. L Ravindran, the Co-Chairman of Economics Affairs Expert Committee acted as the host of the show. Mr. Kaushik Mukerjee, Chairman of Economic Affairs Expert Committee mention about the glooming start-up markets in India. Smt. V Manjula IAS, Principal Secretary to Government of Karnataka, the keynote speaker of the day and also the one and only bold woman on the dias mentioned all the policies and focuses for the start-up in Bangalore. She also mentioned that at least 5% of the people must be from Bangalore in order to get the funds. Mr. H.V. Harish, Partner, India Leadership Team, Grant Thornton and past president BCIC further gave the corpus fund details. Mr. Abhinary Choudhari, co-founder of BigBasket, presented the factors to be considered from the beginning till the end of the start-up. He spoke from ideation to successful market. Finally Mr. Chander Baljee, CMD of Royal Orchids Hotel, shared his past memories, struggles and success. He also pointed out that the start-ups nowadays have more opportunities and ventures to fund them. Then the panel discussion took place between Mr. Ravi Narayan, Director of Microsoft Ventures India, Mr. Karthik Nageswaran, CFO of Kalari Capital, Mr. Rahul Chaudhary, Co-founder of Treebo Hotels, Mr. Raghunandan G, Co-founder of TaxiforSure, Mr. Abhisekh Goenka, Partner,PwC and Mr. Premchander, Adjunct faculty, IIMA. The Q & A session took place thereafter, and our students have also came up with more interesting and valid questions to the panellist.
Business view and planning, leadership quality, business related activity, innovative ideas , start up business and the policies to start up the companies in Karnataka providing venture funds, assistance and space were discussed during the session. The program motivated the students and helped in gaining more knowledge about the startups and its risk factor. After the session was over the AVANT GARDE (AG) students interacted the following chief guests and discussed the AG product ‘stop n shop’.
