Interactive session on ” Innovation & Entrepreneurship focusing Start-up creation”

Dr.Vijayaragavan Viswanathan, a distinguished scientist in CERN and the CTO and cofounder of Tiino Techmations Ltd., Coimbatore delivered a presentation on ‘Innovation & Entrepreneurship focusing Start-up creation’ in the MBA Conference Hall of the college on 25.4.15. This Skype conversation from Switzerland started at 10.30 am IST and Dr.Vijayaragavan enunciated on Innovation driven Entrepreneurship, small scale industries, startups, decision making, decision taking and many more. He also clearly demarcated the difference between innovation and invention by citing suitable examples. The students got involved in the discussion and came up with questions for clarification. The questions from the students were from different realms including capitalism, share marketing, partnerships, etc.

A few of the questions asked by the students are listed below

  1. What is the difference between ‘Decision Maker’ and ‘Decision Taker’?
  2. How do I choose the best idea for starting a new company, when I have many ideas?
  3. Is there a restriction for designing logos for my company and what are the attributes for a good logo?
  4. Is entrepreneurship pure luck or perfect planning?
  5. Who is a venture capitalist?
  6. How many were there with you, Sir, while beginning your idea and how many of them stay with you till now?
  7. What to do when one materializes the mission of the company? How should one devise the exit plan for the company?
  8. Is it necessary to start a company after gaining experience?
  9. Should one go against one’s family and start up a business?
  10. Is it safe to for an entrepreneur to venture into share market?
  11. Is it advisable to start a company by oneself or is it better to have partners?
  12. What is the difference between venture capitalist and angel investors?

Dr.Vijayaragavan answered all these questions with zeal and enthusiasm. He also narrated his experience bringing up his startup and he urged the young minds to take up Entrepreneurship not just as an experience, but as a career.  The session was a perfect illustration of the interest of the young graduates of Sona College of Technology in entrepreneurship. The session was attended by ME (CSE), ME (Software Engineering) and MBA students. The second part of this series took place on 7.5.2015 at the ECE conference hall. The students interacted with him on business model and market analysis.
