Hello Sona Bloggers,

I congratulate all of you who are using this facility at Sona for the exchange of ideas and sharing of knowledge among yourselves. Let me tell you that blog is a shortened form of ‘weblog’ wherein ‘we’ is dropped. Weblog was used for the first time by Jorn Barger in 1997 and later the short form was used by Evan Williams in 1999. The formal meaning of blog is a platform for discussion or sharing information for knowledge enhancement on World Wide Web, as we know it better by ‘www’.

We, at Sona started Sonablog some time back keeping in mind that we can share knowledge which we have acquired over the years. All of us have to keep learning and updating ourselves in today’s fast changing era driven by information technology.

We are not observing a frequent blog occurrence. What is that which is holding us back?  We must start communicating with others. In the process we learn a lot by way of sharing ideas and by communicating to others. We have observed a few of advertisements or invitations posted on Sonablog. This is just fine and can also be done on regular Sona website. And we have been doing this for quite a long. Blogs are meant for short logs (short written records and not long wood logs!) by individuals for sharing (to make others know) and for acquiring (to know from others) the knowledge and information.

And finally I present some instances of blogs. We can share our experiences of attending any program outside, we can put our research ideas on blog for the good work we are doing and can share a new teaching technique which has produced good results. Some good practices followed in some of the departments may be learning sources for other departments if we share those. We can also put some question for anyone to reply. For example I write a blog on Sonablog as ‘I need a substrate material of dielectric constant not less than 4, if anyone can give some information on how and where to procure it?’ The answer may come (assuming) from someone who has a sapphire with 9.0 but the cost! And then next answer says (again assuming) ‘I have already synthesized alumina ceramic with 9.7 during one of my project works at one of the Sona Laboratories’.  And at no cost! As a result I synthesize the substrate in our own laboratory without paying to and procuring from outside. The purpose of blog is served well. This is how blogs help us.

All of us are unique and have wonderful brain which makes us creative in doing the things in different ways. And who knows that someone’s way becomes Wasco Da Gama way in the vastness of sea of knowledge.

I hope that we use Sonablog more frequently for constructive and helpful purposes. I will take a lead on blogging frequently and request all others to use the good platform provided by our management.
