Sona College of Technology celebrated National Science Day on February 28, 2024, in Sri Valliappa Auditorium, organized by the Department of Sciences. Dr. C. Shanthi, Head, Department of Sciences welcomed the gathering. She highlighted the achievements done by various departments of Sona to the first year students. Dr. S.R.R. Senthil Kumar, Principal, delivered a special address about the importance of Science in Engineering and Technology.
The Principal emphasized that the development of superior technologies require innovative thinking. He added that students must put extra effort to achieving in the domains of artificial intelligence, cyber security, and other emerging technologies. He appreciated the Science Department’s involvement in R&D activities. He also encouraged the students to transform their ideas into real-world initiatives from which they might seek publication and patent protection. The Chief Guest of the function, Dr. S. Selvakumar, Scientist-SG, Sathish Dhawan Space Centre, ISRO, Sriharikota, gave a talk on the history of launching vehicles and satellites launched by ISRO from 1963 to the present. He highlighted the significance of innovative and outside-the-box thinking for technological advances. He also inspired students by educating them about the ISRO recruitment procedure.
As a part of Science Day Celebrations, various competitions such as JAM (Just a minute), Science Quiz, Paper Presentation, Multimedia presentation, Making of Sirpi, and Working Science Models were conducted exclusively for all the first-year students to showcase their hidden talents. Students enthusiastically participated in all the competitions. Prizes and Certificates were distributed by the Chief Guest. The Science club coordinator Dr. M. Balamurugan thanked the Management, Principal, Science club members and all the students for making National Science Day Celebrations 2024, a grand success.
