Short term Courses

• Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) Students Chapter was inaugurated on 6th Feb 2012. About 120 students and 4 faculty members became a member through this inauguration.
• Industrial visit was organized to Mettur Dam by the Department of Civil Engineering and ICI student chapter of Sona College of Technology on 24.02.2012.
• The Guest lecture was arranged on 3rd March 2012, on the topic "Innovative applications on Ferrocement" by Dr. P. Paramasivam, Emeritus Professor, National University of Singapore, Singapore.
• Organized a Project expo through ICI chapter during 7th and 8th March in which about 23 projects were exhibited. The Secretary and the Chief Guest were very much impressed with the student's new innovative projects and they reimbursed the amount spent by students for their projects.
• The Industrial Visit was arranged to Concrete Sleeper Plant near BOMMIDI Railway Station yard in Salem Railway Division Limits, on 28.03.12.
• The report writing competition was arranged by ICI student chapter, on 9th July 2012.
• To test the knowledge of the students, the experimental investigation was conducted on the "Characteristics study of the given material", which was held on 24th August 2012 in the Sona College Laboratory.
• One day seminar on "Modelling and Design Software in Civil Engineering" was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering in association with its ICI students Chapter on 30.08.2012.
• The guest lecture was conducted on 23.01.2013, on the topic "Retrofitting Techniques" by Dr. M.Lakshmipathy, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, S.R.M. University, Kattankulathur, Chennai.
• Tech Talk on 20.08.2013 by Dr.R.Malathy,Dean R&D Department of Civil Engineering, Sona College of Technology, Salem in Association with ICI Student Chapter,Salem
• Guest lecture on “Concrete Technology” on 11.10.13 by Mr.S.Jagadesan,AssisatantManager,Technical Services, The Ramco cements
• Guest lecture on “Prestressed concrete poles” on 14.03.14 by Er.K.Gurunathan,AssistantEngineer,Tamil Nadu Electricity Board
• One day Workshop on “Current practices in Civil Engineering” on 21.03.14 by Er.S.Lakshmanan

• Technical  Lecture Lateral loads on structures-Wind by Dr.L.S.Jeyagopal of M/s.MithranAssociates,Coimbatore.
