A guest lecture was arranged for the third year Civil Engineering A Sec students on 30/12/2022 for the subject U15CE503 – Design of reinforced concrete elements on the topic “Design and Detailing of Reinforced Concrete Elements” through google meet and delivered by Er.A.Karthikeyan, Structural & Geotechnical Consultant, Karthikeyan Associates, Chennai. The Guest lecture covered on different design philosophies like limit state method, working stress method and ultimate method and their merits and demerits also. The design of structural elements beam, slab and column were covered as per the design carry out in the field. Importance of soil structure interaction with the buildings also explained in detail. The dimensions like effective depth, overall depth, length, width, cover block, diameters of rebars used in the site also mentioned. Finally, detailing of each structural elements along with blue print and how to utilise the IS 456, SP16 code books for detailing also explained neatly to the students. It was helpful for the students to enhance their knowledge in this subject area and understand how industry works. Overall the feedback was good.
