Our Chairman C. Valliappa says, “A 100 years ago, staying in our Founder Kalaithanthai Karumuttu Thiagaraja Chettiar’s guest house in Madurai, Gandhi removed his shirt, never to wear it again, saying, he has to be like an Indian to feel like an Indian.”
In his article in Navjivan magazine about Swadeshi Movement, Gandhi wrote, “In my tour to Tamil Nadu, I got the third opportunity… When I said Maulana Azad Subhani, I will wear only dhoti, he accepted my thought. Whereas other colleagues were restless about the consequences. I usually decide on my thoughts after a long and deep process. I made this revolutionary change in my attire in Madurai.”
