Intramural Lecture on “Introduction to Deep Learning and its Applications” on 08.02.2019 at PG auditorium by Prof. D. Vidyabharathi, CSE Department

Deep learning is a sub-field of machine learning dealing with algorithms inspired by the structure and function of the brain called artificial neural networks. In other words, it mirrors the functioning of our brains. Deep learning algorithms are similar to how nervous system structured where each neuron connected each other and passing information. Deep learning models work in layers and a typical model at least have three layers. Each layer accepts the information from previous and pass it on to the next one. Deep learning models tend to perform well with amount of data whereas old machine learning models stops improving after a saturation point. The various applications are Colorization of Black and White Images, Adding Sounds to Silent Movies, Automatic Machine Translation, and Object Classification in Photographs, Automatic Handwriting Generation, Character Text Generation, Image Caption Generation and Automatic Game Playing.
