Intramural Lecture on “3D Visual Garmenting and Fit Analysis” on 12.07.2019 by Dr. D. Raja, Professor & HOD (I/C), FT Department

It is the technology for developing a garment for an individual with proper fit and comfort by scanning and virtual try-on. Fitting in the real world can be reflected in cyber space for 3D virtual fitting simulation technology to be used by the tool for fit estimating. It is three stage processes (3D Body scan, Style creation and Fit Analysis). 3D body scanning is a non-intrusive technology that scans the human body in less than 30 seconds to generate a 3D body model and accurate body measurements. The model and measurements are stored in the computer and can later be retrieved, and emailed to the individual for home viewing. Virtual-try-on solutions simulate digitally the behaviour of textiles onto the human body 3D cloth simulation engines are employed to determine precisely how the cloth item will behave on the digital body model. We can assemble garments from CAD cloth patterns (2D), seam these together, and animate the cloth (3D) in dynamic scenes with any chosen material properties. This particular technology has got a great scope and solves the problems of the designer, pattern makers and model technicians also if we adopt this technique we can get good fit in the first physical sample preparation itself.
