One day CSIR sponsored Seminar on “CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION WASTE IN INDIA: ISSUES, CHALLENGES AND LOW-COST SOLUTIONS” on 26.8.19.  The seminar was arranged at PG auditorium from 9.00-5.00 P.M. Resource persons from Top institutes and laboratories were invited to give the notes on morning and afternoon sessions.

The programme was started with the prayer song followed by Welcome address by Dr.Gulshan Taj M.N.A. ASP/Civil, Organizing Secretary of the programme. She welcomed the audience and gave short notes on the topic of the seminar in the current scenario.  Around 75 participants from other colleges attended the seminar including faculty members from other colleges. After the welcome address felicitation address was delivered by DR.R.Malathy, HoD/Civil, and Convener of the seminar programme. She emphasized the need of the seminar and briefed about the various challenges prevail in Construction and Demolition waste sector and she outlined the various effective methods to handle such waste as prefabricated panels. Followed by felicitation address Presidential address was delivered by Dr.S.R.R.Senthil Kumar, Principal, Patron of the Seminar. He has thrown light on various issues in C&D waste and also shared the case study where he handled such waste in an effective manner. Followed by above addresses, Souvenir in the form of CD is released along with all Guests invited for the programme. The first session was started with the chief guest notes from Dr.G.Shantha Kumar, CBRI, Roorkee and delivered the notes on “Issues and challenges in India in Construction and demolition sector” He also spoke about various experimental works carried out in CBRI, Roorkee in this area. After the break, the session started with the Keynote address by DR.R.Malathy, HoD/Civil and she spoke about the use of recycled aggregate in construction and thrown glimpses on effective use provided the proper approach to the problem. MR.V.Sriraman, CEO, Prayojana Construction and management training Institute delivered the case study about Chennai Airport where they worked on demolition waste in successful mode. After lunch, the session started with the technical event for outside participants. Winners were provided with the certificate for their role in the event. The afternoon session started with the notes from Prof.K.Ananthanarayanan, IIT/Madras with the topic on “Lean principle to minimize C&D waste in India”. He spoke about six sigma principal in order to minimize the waste for further utilization. Prof.J.Karthikeyan, NIT/Trichy spoke on various IS codes prevail in handing C&D waste in India along with the information about various low cost materials from C&D waste. Finally, the certificates were distributed to all the participants and feedback were obtained from all the participants. Few participants shared their feedback as a positive way and they informed that this seminar acted as eye-opener for them to proceed further in this topic and area. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Ms.Priyanka, third-year Civil student followed by National anthem.
