A two day workshop was organized by Prof.A.Murugesan and Prof.A.Meenachi. The workshop was conducted to our final year civil engineering students exclusively on the topic of “Practical usage of Total station equipment and GPS in surveying” field to improve their placement opportunities.The resource person was Er.S.Raj Kumar, Chairman (Chief Surveyor) and Er.S. Dinesh Kumar (HR, The Salem Land Survey Institute).The workshop was on 30th and 31st January 2017. The workshop started with a half a day introduction to the opportunities for fresher’s in the field of surveying and the basics of surveying.The remaining days covered the topics on the basic options and usage of Total station instrument. They were practically taught the measurement of horizontal and vertical distance and how to find out the area and height of the building. The difference between two equipments and the reflector and prism types used according to the practical difficulty in fixing them was taught. Practically the students itself handled the instrument and made use of the workshop efficiently.
