24th Graduation Day 2024, Sona College of Technology

The 24th Graduation Day of Sona College of Technology was celebrated with great pride and joy on December 6, 2024. This momentous occasion marked a significant new chapter in the life for 1,060 undergraduate and 250 postgraduate students, as well as 10 Ph.D. scholars, who were conferred with their degrees amidst a jubilant atmosphere.

The graduation day ceremony commenced with a colourful ceremonial march. As the college music band played the celebratory melody our Principal, Prof.Dr.S.R.R Senthilkumar led the colourful procession of the Deans, HoDs and the dignitaries. The solemn ceremony began at Sri Valliappa Auditorium with Tamilthai Vazhthu, Prayer Song and the Founders Song.

Our esteemed Chairman, Sri C. Valliappa, shared profound insights, emphasizing the vital role of teachers in shaping students’ lives. “Teachers are the happiest persons when you succeed,” he remarked, urging graduates to uphold unwavering loyalty and respect for their parents.

Vice Chairman, Mr. Chocko Valliappa, highlighted the unique journey of the 24th batch, which began during the challenging times of COVID-19 and concluded in a brighter era. He credited the college’s foresight in adopting advanced digital learning systems a decade ago as a key factor in this success. He also stressed the importance of continual learning in an era of rapid technological advancements. “At Sona College of Technology, we keep updating our computers every 18 months,” he said, encouraging graduates to adapt to the demands of constant change.

Vice Chairman, Mr. Thyagu Valliappa, shed light on the emerging opportunities in the core manufacturing sector. He elaborated on the benefits of the 3DX Training Lab established in collaboration with Dassault Systèmes, which equips students, particularly Mechanical engineers, with the skills to secure high-paying jobs in computer-aided 3D design, both in India and abroad.

The event was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Chief Guest Dr. V. Geethalakshmi,  who delivered an inspiring Graduation Day Address. She emphasized on the importance of interdisciplinary studies explaining how agricultural sciences and engineering technology complement each other. She lauded Sona College for its innovative projects that align with TNAU’s initiatives, highlighting opportunities for collaboration between the two institutions.

Our Principal, Prof.Dr.S.R.R Senthilkumar, who delivered the welcome note, read a report on the achievements and milestones. Here are the excerpts from the report.

Chairman’s Honours:

• Celebrated Chairman’s Sadhabhisekam in three grand phases in July.
• Designated as the Thakkar of renowned temples in Salem.
• Received Lifetime Achievement and Kalvithandhai Awards for contributions to

Education and society.

Academic Achievements

• Undergraduate Programs: Out of 1,060 B.E./B.Tech students, 92.74% successfully graduated, with 382 achieving distinction and 589 securing first-class.
• Postgraduate Programs: Among 74 M.E./M.Tech students, 93.24% passed, with 34 earning distinction and 35 achieving first-class.
• MBA: 93.7% of 187 students graduated, with 16 distinctions and 152 first-class.
• MCA: All 63 students passed including 5 distinctions and the department achieved a 100% pass rate.

2024 Achievements Report – Milestones of Excellence

       Sona College’s recent accomplishments include:

• Institutional Recognition: NAAC A++ accreditation with a CGPA of 3.65, NIRF rankings, and TECH EDU awards.
• Research and Development: Support for ISRO’s GSLV-F14 mission, 185 patents filed, and over 800 indexed research articles.
• Global Partnerships: MoUs with leading international institutions like Purdue University and the University of Strathclyde.
• Placement Success: 85% placements with top domestic offers of Rs.18.54 LPA and international offers in Japan at JPY 33.6 LPA.
• Community Impact: STI Hub funded by the DST received a grant of Rs.2.77 crores to uplift Scheduled Caste communities. Sona received 15+ Crores funding this year.

The 24th Graduation Day at Sona College of Technology ended with the solemn pledge administered by the Principal to all the new graduates. As the graduates stepped out into the world, armed with knowledge and confidence, the day symbolized a new beginning. Sona College stands proud of its legacy, ready to shape future leaders and innovators.
