The PG students of department of Civil Engineering (Structural Engineering) in SONA COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY had participated in “National Conference on Science and Technology for Indigenous Development in India, (NCST –IDI 2015)” Organised by ISCA 2015 in SRM university at Chennai from 26.11.2015 to 28.11.2015. There were almost 94 posters had presented in the conference. The students Mr.V.Bala and M.Jagadesh had presented a poster about “Papercrete Bricks” which mainly reduces the cost and weight when compare to conventional clay or fly ash bricks by using waste papers. Miss. N.Surya presented poster about “Strengthening of Reinforced Concrete Beam using Synthetic Fabrics” The textile fabrics wrapped over the beam which will enhance the strength of the New & Existing concrete beam and also to reduce the deflection due to loads and it will also control the crack formation Miss.T.Manjupriya presented a poster about “Effect of Magnetically treated water to enhance the strength properties of concrete when compared to the conventional concrete. Miss.M.Thulasi and V.varsha presented about “Light Transmitting Concrete” Which was used for aesthetic purposes in structural Elements by optical fiber without affecting its strength parameters.

From the above participants, Mr.V.Bala and M.jagadesh had won the best poster award  out of 94 posters presented in ISCA 2015 for the topic “Papercrete Bricks”. The Innovative Ideas by the students under the guidance of Dr.R.Malathy, (Department of Civil Engineering) was appreciated by Chairman Mr. C.Valliyappa, Principal Dr.V.Jayaprakash and the academic director Mr.C.V.Koushik.
