RESEARCH - Centre for Nano materials / Micro machining (CNM/MM)
OBJECTIVES:
  1. To synthesize various nanostructured materials for different applications through severe plastic deformation and high energy ball mill (top down approach)
  2. To synthesize various nanostructured coatings for different applications through pulse plating (bottom up approach)
  3. To develop an integrated micro ECM (Electrochemical Machining) and micro EDM (Electric Discharge Machining) for manufacturing micro components.
  4. To develop a setup for production of metal matrix composites especially Aluminium Matrix Composite (AMC)
ACTIVITIES :
  1. RESEARCH
    1. Synthesis of various nanostructured materials including nanostructured coatings.
    2. Production of AMC
    3. Optimization of process parameters in pulse plating, high energy ball mill, µ-ECM and µ-EDM and casting of AMC.
    4. Ph.D / M.E / M.Tech / M.Sc / M.Phil project works
  2. CONSULTANCY AND TESTING
    1. Development of materials and coatings for specific applications
    2. Transfer of pulse plating technology to plating industries.
    3. Provide consultancy for electroplating industries
    4. Providing training for operation of µ-ECM, µ-EDM machines and high energy ball mills.

Title STUDIES ON THE PULSE PLATING OF SILVER FOR THE JEWELLERY INDUSTRY
Objective The main objective of the proposed research project is to significantly reduce the consumption of silver during plating of sliver jewellery thereby resulting in significant reduction in the production cost. In addition, the project also aims at reducing the production time as well as improving the quality of the coatings.
