Felicitations to Sona Group of Institutions

Sona Group of Institutions, the pioneer technical institutes has added yet another feather to its crown by receiving the prestigious national awards presented by AICTE and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

AICTE and CII conducted a nation-wide survey in 2013 in which Sona College of Technology was honoured with the "Best Industry – Linked Technical Institutes 2013" and Thiagarajar Polytechnic College was awarded the "Best Industry – Linked Technical Institutes" in 2014. To commemorate this a grand felicitation function was organized by CII Salem. The Co-founder of Infosys Ltd, Bengaluru, and the immediate past president of CII Padma Bhushan, Kris Gopalakrishnan was the chief guest of the day. S. Mohan, Chairman, CII, Salem presided over the felicitation function.

 C. Valliappa, Chairman, Chocko Valliappa and Thyagu Valliappa, Vice Chairmen, Sona group of institutions, were honoured by the Chief Guest. The Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology departments of Sona College of Technology and Civil Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering departments of Thiagarajar Polytechnic College were presented with the awards as an acknowledgement of their achievements.

The chief guest wanted the young technocrats to make use of the abundance of minerals and the scope for starting up electrical and electronics businesses in the city. He wanted Sona group of institutions to lead the aspiring engineers in the field of higher education and research.

Worshipful Mayor S. Soundappan, Salem City Municipal Corporation, D. Ravichandar, Mentor, Education & Skill Panel, CII Salem, K. Purushothaman, Senior Director, NASSCOM, Chennai, Dr. PSS. Srinivasan, Convenor, Education & Skill Panel, CII, Salem, P. Srinivasan, Head, Hexaware Technologies, Chennai,  Er. K. Mariappan, Mentor, MSME/Manufacturing Panel, CII, Salem,  were the special invitees.

The criteria for the awards were the number of national and international seminars conducted, students' and teachers' participation in conferences, workshops, academic records, exploration in latest technology, guidance and support in advanced research said C. Valliappa, Chairman, Sona group of institutions which have produced more than one lakh engineers in their sixty years of service in the field of technical education. He added that honours of this sort will definitely help the Sona group of institutions, the holy land to march ahead and reach newer heights in future. The function ended with the addresses by the Vice-Chairmen of the group.
The members of CII and more than 700 people of Salem attended the function.
