Center for Research and Development of FOSS
- Approved by Anna University as the Nodal Center for promotion of FOSS in the local region among the General public Educational institutions (colleges and schools) and Industries.
- “Software Freedom Day” is celebrated every year in the month of September. (Exhibition of FOSS from different disciplines).
- Special lectures on FOSS awareness.
- FOSS demonstration by students
- Free live CD distributions (like Ubuntu,Knopix,BOSS etc).
- Deliver special lectures on FOSS issues at other institutions located throughout country through NRC-FOSS.
- An Elective subject on FOSS is offered to 3rd and final year students.
- A Basic Training (one week) on FOSS awareness is given to all the 3rd year students every year.
On going Open Source Project
- A software package for Brushless DC Torque Motor Design for launch vehicle application using OpenGL/Qt
- Development of Compiler tool for 8051 Microcontroller with guidance from IGCAR Scientist Dr.Murali.
- Development of Space Craft Simulation tool Using OpenGL and Scilab with guidance from ISRO Scientist Dr.Kannan
- Development of IGCAR plant graphics using OpenGL/Qt 4
- Introducing the FOSS related Lab experiments in addition to the prescribed Anna University curriculum (Eg: Use of GCC compiler in place of the proprietary Compiler).
- Participation and showcasing of our FOSS expertise in the national level FOSS conferences and meeting
