ISTE Regional (TN&P) Conference on “Role of Technical Education in Energy Conservation

ISTE Regional (TN&P) Conference on “Role of Technical Education in Energy Conservation ( ROTEC 2015)” was held on 05.02.2015 at Sona College of Technology, Salem (TN). Dr. C.V. Koushik, Director, Academics, welcomed the gatherings. Prof. A.Mani, IITM, Chennai, Dr. Samson Raveendran, Vice Chairman, ISTE TN & P section , Dr. Mathan Karthi, Executive member ISTE along with Chairman Shri Valliappa and Vice Chairman Shri Thyagu Valliappa of Sona College of Technology were inaugurated the conference by lighting Kuthuvilakku. Dr. Samson Raveendran, Vice Chairman, ISTE TN & P section appreciated the research activities related to energy conservation in Sona and expressed that ISTE can recommend Sona as a nodal centre for promoting technical education towards energy conservation. Dr.Mathan Karthi, Executive member ISTE mentioned about the contributions of  Sona group institutions to promote technical education and their achievements recognized by ISTE through  awards every year.

Prof. A.Mani in his inaugural address mentioned about the utilization geo thermal energy and effective utilization of solar energy.

Prof.Mukuntharao (retired from IIT-M) in his special address recommended to utilise LED bulbs with subsidized cost for reducing power consumption. Prof.Ashokkumar from PSG college of Technology, Coimbatore in his address mentioned that any engineer can become energy auditor.

About 100 delegates were participated and 50 technical papers were presented by the academicians, researchers and industrialists from all over the state. The panel of experts Dr. V. Karthikeyan, Principal-TPT College (ISTE-SMC), Er.Dhanusu, DGM, Salem Steel Plant, Er.Baskar, Encon Energy Ltd, Coimbatore with Professors of Sona were discussed about the ways and means of reducing energy consumption, tips to save energy in a day to day life and gave the recommendations to include subjects and courses on energy in Engineering degrees at both UG and PG level.

The Principal, Sona College of Technology - V. JayaPrakash, felicitated the gathering and distributed awards to the best papers presented by the participants, at the Valedictory.

The programme was coordinated by ISTE-Chapter Secretary Dr.S.P.Shantharajah and Dr. R. Malathy under the Guidance of Dr. V. JayaPrakash, Principal, Sona College of technology.
