CHEMISTRY :

Projects undertaken:
  • Extraction of Bio-ethanol from tapioca tubers - A Novel technology transfer to the nearby Industries.

As part of this activity, the laboratory has set up an exclusive centre for research to develop an economically viable technology to extract bio-alcohol from the tapioca tubers in 1080 square feets area at the cost of Rupees 12 lakhs. This centre will help the small scale industries to understand and adopt the technology to set up ancillary unit along with their existing tapioca processing units. This will also help the farmers to sell their products at reasonable prices. It is expected that the demand for the ethanol as an alternate fuel for the transportation purpose will increase drastically in the near future.

Through our R & D centre, it is planned to provide economically and environmentally viable technology for the extraction of bio-ethanol from tapioca tubers as our consultancy services to the industries in our region.

Research:

SONASTARCH, the Chemistry R & D centre of Sona College of Technology, Salem is approved by Anna University, Coimbatore, Anna University, Chennai and Annamalai University, Annamalainagar for carrying out the Ph.D. research programmes.
