Sona College of Technology celebrated its Sports Day on 21st February 2017 at the college sports ground. Mr. S. Nagarajan (International Power Lifter) was the chief guest, Mr. Ruhaan Alwa (International Go-Karting Racer) and Ms. A. Anbarasi, National Power Lifter an alumnus of Thyagarajar Polytechnic College were the guests of honour for the day.
The day stared with an interactive session with Mr. Marco Bartoli the chief of BIREL Art India (Italian Kart Manufacturer) in the presence of Mr. Thyagu Valliappa Vice Chairman of Sona Group of Institutions.
The evening session started at 4 pm with the flag hosting by the chief guest and guests of honour. To enliven the sports events, the olympic torch was lit by the chief guest and the sports meet open was declared open.
Sports events were conducted for boys and girls. The students displayed a wide array of reverberant events such as yoga and martial art activities.
Dr. Karthikeyan, Principal, Thyagarajar Polytechnic College, welcomed the gathering. He pointed out that it is the first ever in the history of Sona Group of Institutions, a ten year old boy being a guest of honour for the sports day.
Mr. C. Raja Vignesh, Physical Director, Sona College of Technology, presented the annual sports report.
The vice chairman inspired the gathering by his diminutive speech.
Mr. C. Valliappa, Chairman of Sona Group of Institution gave the presidential address and motivated the students by his speech.
Mr. S. Nagarajan, the chief guest of the day gave an inspirational speech and appreciated the management for having such a world class sports infrastructure facilities at the campus. He insisted the staff members and parents to encourage the students to involve in sports activities.
Ms. A. Anbarasi praised the management for giving wonderful support during her college days.
Dr. M. Usha, the principal of Sona College of Technology, presented the felicitation address and insisted the girls to take part in sports activities in huge number. Winners of the day were honoured by several prizes.
The function ended up with the national anthem.
