District level Build Expo 2018 was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, Sona College of Technology in association with UltraTech Cements on 11th March (Sunday), 2018 at 10.00 am to 6.00 pm in Indian Medial Association Hall located near Five Roads, Salem. It was coordinated by Prof. P. Samuel, Civil Dept, SCT along with students. The programme was inaugurated by Thiru. R. Sadheesh, Commissioner, Salem Corporation as a Chief Guest and Er. K. Muruganandam, Chairman, Builders Association of India was invited as Guest of Honour. Er. K. Mayilraju, Vice-President, Civil Engineers Association presided over the function in the august presence of Dr. R. Malathy, HoD & Dean (R&D)/Civil, SCT.
Students displayed about 40 numbers of projects and models; The Expo was focused on recent trends in civil Engineering Construction. The stages of construction, material properties, their quality and purpose of the materials used during the construction process(A-Z) of buildings, starting from Site Investigation to Painting of the building and futuristic technology, other important parameters which should be considered while constructing the building weredisplayed as models. The usage of M sand to Cut-down the current issues of River sand, awareness has been given to the public by comparing and explaining the strength and properties. Importance of water quality to be used in construction were made notice to the public for quality construction. Students impart the knowledge of sustainable material usage in green building construction. More than 600 peoples were benefited by the Expo for quality construction of the building.
Shri. C. Valliappa, Chairman, Sona Group of Institutions made his valuable presence and visited the displayed projects. Students were appreciated for their endless effort and the best models were honored with a prize.
