IEI Sponsored One Day Workshop on “Disaster Mitigation Measures Adopting National Building Code” on 7.12.2017.

The Civil Engineering department of Sona College of Technology in association with the Institution of Engineers (India), Salem Local Centre conducted a one day workshop on “Disaster Mitigation Measures Adopting National Building Code” on 7.12.2017.

Dr R Malathy, Professor and Head welcomed the gathering. She presented a hazard profile of India. She recalled that infamous disasters occur during the month of December, as observed during the past decades. She also mentioned that the acronym NBC could also mean Nuclear, Biological and Chemical hazard. She insisted on developing the culture of preparedness to mitigate the effects of disasters.

Er K Pandian, Chairman, IEI Salem Local Centre gave a brief overview of their activities. He pointed out that the workshop has been in a right time to bring out the importance of mitigation measures against disasters.

Dr K Jayaprakash, Director Industry Connect praised the support of IEI for many technical events in SCT. He requested the participants to propagate the message on disaster risk reduction measures among the public and promote the concept of preparedness.

Dr S Christian Johnson, Dean & Professor, Excel Engineering College presented on Disaster Mitigation Measures in Hydropower Projects Infrastructure. He shared his experience and the session was too interactive.

Dr R Kuberan, Senior Editor, Civil Engineering Construction Review shared his thoughts on “Disaster Mitigation Measures for Civil Engineers”. He touched upon the basic terminologies, history of disastrous events, types and its mitigation action.

Dr R Jagadeesan, Professor, SCT presented on NBC for Disaster Management. He has given the details of Indian codal provisions available for disastrous events.

Our guest Mr. Aruljothiarasan, Project Director DRDA, Salem and his subordinates interacted with the students and shared his past experience. He also shared about the initiatives taken by the government to reduce the disaster risk. He distributed certificates to the participants.
