Department of Civil organized a guest lecture on “Water management for Effective Irrigation process” by Dr. A. Rangathan, Research Associate, IMTI, PWD, Trichy on 13.08.2019. He elaborated on the advantages of the micro-irrigation scheme, he said that it saved water by 70 per cent, made nutrients and water reach the root zone, and avoided growth of weeds, besides increasing the productivity by 50 per cent when compared to the conventional method. Dr. Ranganathan also emphasis that problems associated with water availability in Tamil Nadu have become more pronounced due to increasing demands from industry and households, as well as a long-term uptrend in the use of water for agriculture. The Tamil Nadu Irrigated Agriculture Modernization  and Water Bodies Restoration  and Management Project supports the government of Tamil Nadu’s goal of improving irrigation systems across the state to increase agricultural and livestock productivity, and create market linkages for farmers. Final year students about 70 made use of this lecture as the topic is in their part of syllabus.
