A guest lecture was organized in Civil Department, under the guidance of Dr. R.Malathy, HOD/ Civil for the final year students on the topic “River Training Works” by Dr. A. Ranganathan, Research associate, IMTI, PWD Trichy on 22.09.2017. This lecture is one of the topics in irrigation engineering which is a part of the curriculum. Almost 120 students attended the lecture. The resource person started the session by giving small activities to the students which made them enthusisastic. He then explained the terms used in irrigation and briefed about the components of river training works. He discussed the conditions in constructing protective structures with real time examples. The students gained good knowledge about various new terms in irrigation. He then discussed the opportunities available for the students in PWD sector.
